When Change Alters the Work Between People
A new structure can be announced in a day. Understanding how to work within it takes longer.
During a merger, growth period or leadership transition, familiar relationships and assumptions may no longer hold. People may be uncertain about whose priorities take precedence, where authority sits or what they can reasonably expect from one another.
Leaders can help by creating space to make those changes explicit. Which agreements still serve the work? Which need to be renegotiated? Where are people relying on expectations that others no longer share?
Revisiting these questions as the work develops helps teams adjust their working arrangements alongside the formal change.
A question to consider: What has changed in our expectations of one another that we have not yet discussed?
If this connects with a current leadership challenge, a private conversation is a place to explore what is happening and whether advisory or coaching support would be useful.
